Always search in the singular.

When you already know the catalog number it can be faster to use the "Search inventory for keywords" function.

Our method for categorizing all these inventory items.

What kid among us can
see this candle holder with three arms and not be reminded of the delightful animated character with the Maurice Chevalier voice from Walt Disney's "Beauty and the Beast?"

A search will return all items that are related to your keyword.

If you are looking for a particular item you may be able to find it quicker using the "search" function on the "Main Entrance" page of the Catalog Store. Here's how to make this powerful search functionality work for you:

Note that the "Search inventory for keywords" box is found only on the Main Entrance page.

Rule Number One for a successful search is: ALWAYS SEARCH IN THE SINGULAR. As an example, type in cup, not cups. Why? Because even though the headings for categories are plural the actual inventory items themselves are entered in the singular. The computer program is actually dumb. Computers do exactly what you tell them to do. So if you enter "cups" it will tell you there aren't any!

When you view the Main Entrance page of the Catalog Store you'll see right away that our inventory of Zwiebelmuster items is categorized. If you want to browse through the categories this is the way to go.

But if you are looking for a certain item you might try "search" first. So when should you use search?

  • when you know the catalog number (e.g., CB276).
  • when you aren't sure which category the item you're looking for has been placed in.
As an example of the case when you're not sure of the correct category, and you want to use "search" to jump right to the item, try the following:
is that napkin ringlet that you're looking for an accessory or a collectible? Type "napkin ringlet" (without the quotes) into the search text box and watch the search program return "ACCESSORIES: CB276." Click on that entry and you'll jump directly to the picture of the item in the accessories section of the catalog.

To aid you in knowing which category contains which items we've said that any item not clearly belonging to a category AND THAT HAS TO DO WITH EATING is an accessory. Otherwise it's a decorative or collectible. A plate or a cup both clearly belong to the plate category and to the cup category, respectively.

But the candleholder with three arms, CB182, doesn't clearly belong to a category. Since it doesn't have anything to do with eating, it's not an accessory. It's not a collectible because it wasn't commissioned for a special occasion. It's a decorative item.

Note that when you search with a generic term such as "cup" you'll get any item that has to do with that term. The eight items returned for "cup" include six drinking cups and two egg cups.
